Here's the process. Lets use a Concert Grand as the example. We begin by gently removing any dust that might cause scratches. The foot pedal connecting rods are disconnected and secured inside the instrument body to prevent movement. The foot pedal lyre column is removed. Then it is gently lifted onto it's long (bass) side and placed on several freshly cleaned heavy-duty piano pads*. These pads are very large and will be wrapped around all exposed surfaces. Next the legs are removed using special padded tools. The lyre column and legs are individually wrapped with pads and together with the hardware are taped and shrink-wrapped together. Next the top prop is padded, wrapped, and secured. The fallboard, music rack / prop, and top are padded and secured. Next the piano pads are wrapped around the entire instrument, taped in place, and entirely shrink-wrapped. Finally it is gently lifted on to a special 'piano board' that is designed to safely and evenly distrubute the weight and to prevent any distortion to the body, sounding board, or harp. The straps on the piano board are gently secured.

The piano is lifted by 6-8 men (remember, a Concert Grand can weight over 1000 lbs.) using the handles on the piano board and placed in the moving van and secured to floor and walls. And last but not least, the bench is padded, taped, and shrink-wrapped and placed into the van and secured.

* If the top overhangs the bass side more than one inch, the top is removed and treated as a seperate piece.
